Tennessee Man Receives 22-year Prison Sentence for Sex Trafficking

Many people would assume that slavery in these United States is over and done.  However, as this case reminds us, it is still alive in the underground sex trafficking world, where untold numbers of young children are abused everyday.

Michael Kohlmeyer, a forklift driver from Trenton, Tennessee, was already dealing with two pending child pornography cases in Gibson County when he was arrested in Nashville. The charge? Attempting to purchase a child to have sex with.

The whole story goes back to a website Kohlmeyer found through which he contacted a prostitute. He requested a child, “just over 8, not over 16,” to have sex with. When the prostitute hung up with him, she tipped the police in on Kohlmeyer’s request and he was promptly arrested. His cellphone contained more than 1,000 photographs of child pornography. With the two pending charges on him already, Kohlmeyer was sentenced to 22 years in prison for trafficking a person under the age of 15 for a sex act. He is the first person in Tennessee to be prosecuted for being a customer of sex trafficking.
